Day 3 LIMA
This morning we will visit the Pachacamac Ruins 31 kms south of Lima.
Pachacamac was long revered by Andean peoples as the creator of the universe, and great monuments were built to honor this divine being. Paramount among these is this ancient citadel close to Lima. Within impressive enclosures, you'll see pyramidal temples, the Sun God Shrine and the Palace of the Chosen Women or Virgins of the Sun. This sacred ceremonial site - built over the course of centuries - will deepen your appreciation of Peru's Incan history.
In the afternoon we will explore Lima's rich kaleidoscope of colonial architectural jewels and revered pre-Columbian sites, charming residential areas, and vibrant shopping districts perched over the blue Pacific. Explore these many facets, including the 16th century Plaza Mayor (Main Square) – still graced by the Government Palace and the City Hall. We'll visit the Cathedral and the San Francisco Convent, built in the 17th century, and its "Catacombs". Our tour continues along the city's lovely Pacific coast through the enchanting neighborhoods of San Isidro, Miraflores and Larco Mar. Finally, we will visit the pre-Inca pyramid of Huallamarca.
Tonight we stay in Hotel Casa Andina Centro.
Meals included: breakfast

This morning we will travel to Pisco to take an overflight (4 hours approx) of the Nazca Lines. We depart by small plane up to Nazca to fly over the mysterious Nazca Lines, markings made in the sands over 2000 years ago that time and weather have not yet eroded. Here you will see gigantic geometrical lines (over 32 figures) resembling a landing field, a monkey, a spider, a condor, a reptile, a fish, a bird, etc. The largest figures are the reptile (180 mts/590 ft), the pelican and the condor (135mts/443 ft).
We will return to Miraflores and overnight at Hotel Casa Andina Centro.
Meals included: breakfast

This morning we transfer to the airport for our Lan Chile flight LA2037 to Cusco (11.40am departure). On arrival in Cusco (12.55pm) we will be met and transferred down to the Sacred Valley where we will stay for the next 5 nights. The Sacred Valley is a lower altitude than Cusco (2,400 meters), making it easier to adjust to the altitude difference which is why the itinerary is planned this way.
We are staying at Hatun Wasi, a retreat centre in Urubamba.
Meals included: breakfast

This morning we will visit Pisac, a picturesque town with its daily colorful fairs. Here merchants offer for sale all sorts of handicrafts, the most important of which are the textiles and ceramic goods such as ceremonial goblets called "Q'eros", plates, ashtrays, necklace and replicas of pre-Hispanic pottery. Lunch at a local restaurant/café.
After lunch, we will drive into the nearby hills to the ancient solar observatory at Pisac and enter the site through the ancient Temple of the Condor and make our way to the ancient Sun Temple, the most sacred area of this site. After spending time at this sacred site, we will return to Hatun Wasi.
Meals included: breakfast

Today we will visit the remarkable fortress of Ollantaytambo, built by the Incas. A very steep stone staircase leads into the fortress. Across an esplanade there is a temple with 10 niches, and beside it a block of partially unworked stones. Beyond another esplanade, six huge rectangular monoliths (estimated weight: 50 tons) form the Temple of the Sun. Vestiges of rooms are seen on top, and on the other side of the hill a four storey building.
We have most of the day in Ollantaytambo to explore the area and if possible (divinely ordered) visit a local shaman who lives here. Return to Hatun Wasi.
Meals included: breakfast

Today is a day of 'flow' where we will open to the universal energies to guide us. Options are to partake of spiritual treatments; to walk in nature; meet up with local healers and/or Andean Shamans or to just 'be'. We will enjoy the beauty and spirit of our retreat centre, Hatun Wasi.
Meals included: breakfast

This morning we will visit Moray Archaeological Incan Complex. These are enormous natural depressions or hollows in the ground that Incans' used for constructing irrigated farming terraces around them. The difference in average annual temperature between the top and the bottom reaches about 15°C (59°F) in the main depression that is about 30 mts (100 feet) deep. In these natural formations, nature has created a micro climate. The purity of this site means we are able to explore its amazing energy and feel into our own connectedness to the Incan civilization.
We will return to Hatun Wasi and have the afternoon free.
Meals included: breakfast

We have an early pick up this morning to transfer to the railway station to board the Vistadone train that meanders through the Urubamba Valley or Sacred Valley of the Incas, to the twon of Aguas Calientes at the foot of the fabulous mountaintop ruins of Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu, circa mid-15th century, was never discovered by the Spaniards. For centuries it was buried in the jungle until Hiram Bingham found it in 1911.
This afternoon we will have a guided tour of the Holy City of Machu Picchu. There is no doubt that Machu Picchu represents an extraordinary example of architecture and engineering and is a most sacred site.
Tonight we will stay in our hotel, El Mapi in Aguas Calientes.
Meals included : breakfast, lunch, dinner

This morning we will travel again up the mountain to Machu Picchu where we will have the day to explore and undergo initiations in this sacred site. There is also the opportunity for those who wish to, to climb Huayna Picchu, the Young Peak.
Aguas Calientes means Hot Water and there are hot springs in town, so there is the opportunity to bathe in the waters in the evening. Overnight in El Mapi Hotel.
Meals included : breakfast, dinner

Day 13 CUSCO
Today is a day at leisure where we can integrate the energies of our time at Machu Picchu as well as explore the delightful city of Cusco. The town has an impressive Plaza and wonderful Spanish architecture as well as cobbled streets and colourful markets. Overnight at Casa Andina Catedral Hotel.

Day 14 CUSCO
Today we visit the sacred sites in and around Cusco. Our tour includes a visit to the Cathedral, considered the best repository of colonial art. We'll continue the circuit to Qoricancha ("court of gold", also known as the Temple of the Sun), the religious and political center of Cusco during the Incan era. Just outside the city is Sacsayhuaman ("speckled falcon"), the fortress above Cusco whose precise zigzags of massive stone remain unmoved by the centuries. This is the center of the ceremonies for the famous Inti Raymi festival. Continuing away from the city, we'll visit Tambomachay ("cavern lodge") where fountains built by the Incas capture the waters of a natural spring. Finally, we will visit Cusilluchayoc before returning to our hotel, Casa Andina Catedral.
